On paper, the Dallas Cowboys have one of the best offenses in the NFL. They have a strong offensive line and excellent skill position players and everything is brought together by quarterback, Dak Prescott.

Even with wide receiver Amari Cooper being traded and Cedrick Wilson Jr. departing in free agency, this is still an offense with a ton of weaponry. They were able to re-sign wide receiver Michael Gallup and tight end Dalton Schultz. They make a very good trio with new No. 1 receiver CeeDee Lamb, but the strength of this offense could be in their backfield.

Finding one good running back to shoulder the load is tough enough, but the Cowboys have two in Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard. They combine to make one of the best duos in the league as they can get it done rushing the ball or as pass catchers.

Prescott is very confident in his running backs, especially Elliott. He recently made a bold statement about the Ohio State product, saying there isn’t a better back than Elliott when he is healthy.

That is certainly a hot take from Prescott. Being confident in your teammates is one thing, but an argument could be made that Elliott isn’t even the best running back on the roster when healthy. Pollard has been very effective when called upon whether it is in relief of him or stepping into the lineup when he cannot play.

Elliott led the league in rushing yards per game his first three seasons in the NFL but has steadily declined since. He doesn’t look as explosive on the field, as he landed a long-term deal from the Cowboys and his production quickly fell off after.

Unless he turns back the clock and looks how he did from 2016-2018, there is a chance that Dallas moves on from Elliott after the 2022 season. Pollard is cheaper and has done more with his touches than Elliott has in recent seasons, which could lead to a change being made.
