Lady Eagles end golf season at regionals

Weather pushed the Girls Region 1 Golf regional tournament at Hollydot Golf Course outside of Rye back from Monday to Wednesday last week.
When the young Stratton squad finally got on the course, they struggled to keep up with the leaders, and none were able to qualify for state.
Overall, Stratton finished 10th in the field, posting a final score of 369. Peak to Peak won the team title with a score of 257, outdistancing second place Salida by 33 shots.
All four members of the Peak to Peak team finished in the top 12, including three in the top six, with the overall winner.
In less than favorable conditions, MaKayla Shean led the Lady Eagles, taking 32nd place with a score of 119. Not far behind her was Jessica Brandon, who carded a 122, placing 37th overall. Clare Miltenberger was next, placing 40th with a round of 128. Piper Witzel ended up in 43rd place, tallying a score of 134.
There were 48 golfers in the region. The top 22 finishers qualified for state, along with two members of the Salida squad who were right around 30th place as the entire team punched its ticket to state.
Despite the rough finish to the season, there is plenty of reason to be optimistic about the future of the Lady Eagles program. The four golfers who represented Stratton at regionals were all freshmen or sophomores. Not one of the five members of the team, including Claire Cure, was older than a sophomore this season.
