HATTIESBURG — Southern Miss baseball ace Tanner Hall has been named a first-team All-American by Collegiate Baseball.

The Conference USA Pitcher of the Year enters Friday's Hattiesburg Regional with a 2.69 earned run average and an 8-2 record.

Hall, a sophomore, has struck out 130 batters in 93.2 innings, while issuing only 11 walks.

The Friday starter is the first Southern Miss player to earn first-team All-American honors since fellow hurler Nick Sandlin earned that recognition for his outstanding 2018 season.

Hall and Southern Miss take on Army on Friday at 1 p.m. to begin NCAA Tournament play. Golden Eagles head coach Scott Berry did not name a starter for that contest when speaking to reporters Wednesday.

Hall has allowed two earned runs or fewer in 11 of his 16 outings, holding the opposition off the scoreboard entirely seven times.

He's struck out double digits six times, including a marvelous 13-strikeout showing in a victory over Mississippi State on March 2, holding the Bulldogs without a run in seven innings.

In his most recent outing, Hall limited AUB to two runs, striking out 10 batters in 6.1 innings, earning the win.
