Dexter Hansen

Sentencing has been handed down involving a large embezzlement case within the Bureau County Sheriff's Office.

Fifty-two-year-old Dexter Hansen of Princeton was given 2 years and 6 months in the Illinois Department of Corrections by Judge James Andreoni after pleaded guilty in October to felony official misconduct. The former officer also has been ordered to pay more than $139,000 in restitution within a year of being released from prison.

Hansen admitted to embezzling that money from the Bureau County Jail's Prisoner's Trust Account dating back to 2014. He worked as a deputy for 14 years and held the position of Jail Administrator. During the investigation Hansen was suspended without pay.

Former La Salle County State's Attorney Brian Towne was appointed the special prosecutor in the case.
