Moms push MO Sen. Roy Blunt to act on mass shootings

COLUMBIA, MO (KMOX) - A group of volunteers from Mom's Demand Action paid a visit to Missouri Senator Roy Blunt's Columbia office Wednesday. They handed over five thousand signatures on petitions urging him to do something to reduce mass shootings.

They say there are things the Senate can do right now -- pass a federal red flag law, expand background checks, and confirm the new ATF director and fully staff his agency.

Missouri Deputy Chapter Leader Kristin Bowen says while their movement gained momentum after previous mass shootings, the recent attacks in Buffalo and Uvalde have really struck a nerve. "I think there is a lot of anger along with the grief that we're seeing right now. I see that in the volunteers that I work with in Mom's Demand Action. We're seeing a lot of people returning asking what can they do."

Bowen says this is the moment...to act on gun safety legislation. "The conversation has moved forward past the sort of inadequate thoughts and prayers that we used to hear in years past."
