LANSING, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel confirmed Wednesday that Michigan State Police recently searched the northern Michigan home of former house speaker Lee Chatfield.
Chatfield is being investigated on allegations that he sexually abused his younger brother's wife, Rebekah Chatfield, for a period of 12 years beginning when she was 15-years-old, according to police.
Rebekah reportedly met Lee Chatfield when she was a student and he was a teacher at his father's Christian church and school in northern Michigan.
The Bath Township home of Chatfield's political associate was raided by Michigan State Police on February 15.
Troopers say they recovered a suitcase, computer and other evidence during the February 15 raid.
Chatfield's lawyer said the raid was a "charade" that started with lies from Chatfield's sister-in-law.
“The search of the home of Mr. Chatfield’s former chief of staff is the latest move in an attempt to take down a former Republican politician based on completely false accusations,” his lawyer said.
Lee Chatfield served as the Speaker of the Michigan House of Representatives from January 2019 to January 2021.
