Pride 2022 ready to get back to June traditions on Capitol Hill with a clean-up in Cal Anderson, bands in Volunteer Park

A past scene from Pride in Volunteer Park

Seattle’s Pride was moved to September last year.

As Pride 2022 approaches, last weekend’s cloudy skies might have felt a little like fall — or, at times, winter — but the celebrations of LGBTQ+ communities are ready to resume their rightful place in June after last year’s pandemic delays.

The fun and celebration on Capitol Hill begins this weekend with the return of two popular traditions.

Saturday from 9 AM to 1 PM, Seattle PrideFest will lead a clean-up of Cal Anderson and nearby streets during the 2022 Taking Pride in Capitol Hill event. The community clean-up will get you a free t-shirt, some snacks, and a connection with the community “to spiffy the streets and sidewalks of Capitol Hill to prepare for Pride month.”

Cal Anderson, by the way, may have never been so clean. Mayor Bruce Harrell’s recent “Day of Service” included groups cleaning up the well-loved park.

With construction around the park’s amphitheater still underway, this year’s Pride fun in Volunteer Park will move to the lawn in front of the conservatory

Saturday afternoon, meanwhile, brings the return of another early Capitol Hill Pride tradition. Starting at noon, Seattle Pride in the Park will bring a day of music and performance to Volunteer Park with LGBTQIA+ performances curated in partnership with Taking B(l)ack Pride, activities, food trucks, an alcohol garden, and booths from local nonprofits.

Headliners Fly Moon Royalty take the stage at 6 PM with festivities hosted by burlesque performer Goddess Briq House and drag king Ceasar Hart.

Seattle Pride in the Park is an all-ages event with family events part of the fun including Drag Queen Storytime with Cookie Couture.

Capitol Hill’s streets and public spaces will be busy with parties and festivals over the coming weeks. CHS reported here on the big stage approach to Pride 2022 for some on Capitol Hill this June. Seattle PrideFest will also return to Capitol Hill with a street festival on Broadway and Family Pride and Queer Youth Pride events at Capitol Hill Station’s AIDS Memorial Pathway Plaza on June 25th.

It is great to see people stepping up to clean up the parks before Pride. It is also important to recognize that park maintenance and trash removal is a fundamental government service that is not being performed at an acceptable level currently. Hopefully Mayor Harrell selects new leadership for the Seattle Parks Department that prioritize the basics that have been neglected for years.

Cleanup after Pride, and if kind words are free, doing the right thing should inherantly feel right in each participant, ouch

Clean up after Pride, earn your points. Is this another way to insult this “grungy” town? 🤕 Smog
