A Campbell man faces multiple charges after drugs and a loaded handgun were found in his vehicle following a pursuit in Furnas County last week.
Jeremy Kinney, 48, is charged in Furnas County Court with possession of more than 140 grams of meth, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, possession of a firearm while committing a felony, tampering with physical evidence, operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest, possession of drug money, no drug tax stamp, willful reckless driving (second offense), possession of more than an ounce of marijuana and driving under suspension.
According to an arrest affidavit, around 9:30 p.m. Thursday, a Nebraska State Patrol trooper observed a white Nissan sedan, driven by Kinney, pass another vehicle in a no passing zone as it traveled through Arapahoe on Highway 6/34.
The trooper initiated a traffic stop, but Kinney reportedly failed to stop and accelerated at a high speed. A second trooper was later called to assist in the pursuit.
Two Furnas County Sheriff’s deputies deployed tire deflation devices at the intersection of Highway 6/34 and 726 Road. The devices deflated all four tires on the Nissan sedan, but Kinney allegedly continued eastbound at a high rate of speed. He reportedly drove into oncoming traffic in doing so, driving onto the opposite lane shoulder to avoid hitting a semi.
During the pursuit, an NSP trooper observed Kinney throw objects – later determined to be bags of meth weighing 3 pounds – from the Nissan sedan.
Kinney slowed down to around 60 MPH, the affidavit says, but still failed to stop. This led to a Tactical Vehicle Intervention Maneuver being done on the Nissan sedan, which caused it to go into the ditch and roll before coming to a rest upright.
Kinney was then arrested without incident. He transported to Cambridge Memorial Hospital where he was medically cleared before being taken to the Furnas County Jail.
A search of the Nissan sedan later found a loaded Springfield 9mm handgun, two ounces of marijuana and a large amount of currency.
Kinney is scheduled to be arraigned in Furnas County Court at 10 a.m. June 6.
