It took eight months of funding, building, and working to make it happen, but today, the Sanilac County Historical Society will finally be welcoming a “classic WWII US Pullman Troop Kitchen Car” to museum grounds.

Donated by the now dissolved Port Huron Detroit Railroad Society with an addition donation of $10,000 for some costs, the rail car is due for an exterior painting come mid-June, with window replacements also needed. The 40-ton rail car will also be getting a handicap-accessible ramp added, with the car’s interior to be used for the museum’s military collection.

The historical society invites all interested in watching the rail car’s arrival and installation today, with updates happening via the society’s Facebook page.

Also at the Historical Society, guided and self-guided tours of the mansion have started up again for $8 and $5, respectively, with guided tours of the mansion and grounds being $15. These tours run Wednesdays to Sundays, noon to three, with reservations requested for groups of 8 or more people.

Starting tomorrow, the museum will also be offering private tea parties for up to eight people a party, Wednesdays through Sundays, 1:00-2:30 p.m. through Labor Day weekend. Tickets are $20 per person, with the cost including a guided tour of the mansion. To reserve your spot, call 810.622.9946.

And beginning this Friday (and continuing on select dates), one can hitch a ride on a restored 1917 Model T for a 30 minutes tour through and about the local town of Port Sanilac. Tickets are $15 for adults, with kids 12 and under riding for free. To stay up to date with Historical Society happenings, you can find and follow them on Facebook.
