As Real Madrid fans bask in the glory of a record 14th Champions League title, they are also waving goodbye to three important players and three of football’s most quality players of the last decade in Marcelo, Gareth Bale, and Isco. All three will be free agents this summer, and while there was some discussion of Marcelo potentially staying, the legendary left back confirmed he will leave on a high note.

Madridistas know there are only so many years where they can enjoy the rest of the old guard. Players like Toni Kroos, Casemiro, Luka Modric, and Karim Benzema, ageless as they may be, will not play forever. Modric just confirmed another year-to-year extension, which was more reason for Madridistas to celebrate.

As for Kroos, he also revealed some important information about his future plans. We know Kroos, who already retired from the German national team, is not one to overstay his welcome. He sees things like Karim Benzema. Though unlike Big Benz, he is not expected to go back to his childhood club. He is going to retire as a Madrid star.

Toni Kroos will retire from football and leave Real Madrid after two more years

Kroos told Goal.com’s Jorge C. Picon that he will continue with Real Madrid for two more seasons. And then he will leave the club. That is his current plan.

It is not set in stone that Kroos will leave the Merengue club in two seasons, but it is safe to expect him to follow through on what he says, based on precedent. And based on what he has said in the past, Kroos leaving Real Madrid will mark his retirement from football. Again, he has already retired from national team duty to focus on Madrid, where he is more appreciated. (With yet another Champions League title to prove it!)

Kroos is a favorite of Madridistas and one of the best midfielders in history. Nobody controls a match like him, as Liverpool found out yet again in this year’s Champions League Final. It will be a sad day when we have to say goodbye to Kroos, but you have to respect how he wants to go out on top. And who knows? Maybe one day we will see him as a great manager!
