After a weekend dominated by what one could easily call Kenobi-mania, the OG Star Wars show The Mandalorian woke up on Saturday morning and chose to dominate Star Wars Celebration. Mando+: A Conversation with Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni. And don’t be fooled by the title: Favreau and Filoni don’t need 13 chairs, yet that’s the number of seats onstage. If anyone in this arena skipped their coffee, it seems like this panel is gonna wake them up. The question on every fan’s mind, though: when are we getting Season 3?!

We got an answer to the question — well, we at least know the month. While a date has not been announced yet for The Mandalorian’s return, we know that Season 3 will be released in February 2023. That means we still have a bit to wait and the panelists at Celebration were pretty tight-lipped.

Still, we learned a bit about what’s coming up in Season 3. For one thing, director Rick Famuyiwa — who helmed episodes in Seasons 1 and 2 and is returning for 3 — has been promoted to an executive producer position for The Mandalorian. Famuyiwa joked that he’s “just finding out now.” He continued: “For some reason, Jon [Favreau] saw my film Dope and said, ‘That’s Star Wars material.'”

Season 3 will involve a lot more Mandalore lore, including a visit to Mandalore and lots more from Katee Sackhoff as Bo-Katan Kryze. When asked where Bo-Katan’s head is at in Season 3, Sackhoff dodged the question by joking, “My head is still attached to my body and that’s good.”

But we did see more of Season 3 via the teaser trailer that was screened exclusively at Star Wars Celebration on Thursday. This time, though, the trailer was longer and included lots of new footage including shots of the Armorer (Emily Swallow) clocking an alien with a tool, a broken down Star Destroyer, and Babu Frik (and other babu friks!!). The footage is extremely Mando-heavy, with lots of Mandalorian warriors popping off and getting into lots of action-packed skirmishes. Oh — and the final shot of the extended teaser was a sweeping, overhead shot of the ruins of Mandalore.

On top of all that, we also got to see footage from Ahsoka, which you can learn more about here. And keep following the Star Wars Celebration tag for all things Star Wars, all weekend long.
