What do you think of the storyline involving Amelia wanting to look so different

It is good to see the soap creating awareness about something that is becoming so common amongst young people. I think there is so pressure of wanting people to say that you look good and that is all they care about. It is a shame that they have to go through this because they feel so insecure about how they look

A good subject to introduce into a soap, Owen 10: but It is boring watching identical stories on Coronation St. and Emmerdale - Amelia (ED) and Summer (CS) - even to them both losing their vision because of their behaviour.

It’s awful to watch when other soaps are doing similar story lines. The important thing is they must do their research, get it right
Which would hopefully deter other kids doing the same if they seen the drastic consequences of what they are doing. They can also ruin the character.
What I dislike about it, they drag it out for far too long. As long as it’s not the main story line and this kind of thing is dropped
In between other stories, that’s fine.

I thought it was ridiculous last week when Amelia was necking back some diet drink she bought off the internet in the cafe. And yet she was begging Cathy not to tell Dan. But he could just have easily walked into the cafe and caught her drinking the questionable substance. Although saying that Amelia would likely fob him off and say it was a milkshake or something and Dan, who is rather stupid at the best of times would believe her.

That's true but for me anyway at least I understand Summer's dilema, taking insulin could make her put on weight and she clearly had body issues anyway so this would be immensely triggering for her. However, Amelia's issues seem to have sprung up from nowhere and seem oddly misplaced. I don't particularly want to be in a position where I'm judging a young woman's body but I feel like Ed have put the audience there and I don't actually get Amelia's problem. She wants to have a fuller figure even though her figure looks perfectly fine it seems to me.

I know body dysmorphia is a mental state and what someone actually looks like to others is irrelevant but it's just hard to identify with Amelia's situation. She looks lovely, has boys interested in her but she wants to look like Katie Price I'm guessing. I suppose because there's no history or build up it's difficult to really appreciate.

Granted I don't know much about these things having never tried or wanted to try them for myself, but it also seemed a bit ridiculous to me that Amelia would be swigging from a bottle of whatever that was to change her appearance. How would that work, exactly?

It’s a more original take on a lot of the body issue storylines soap do which tend to be about wanting to lose weight if they are female or bulking up if they are male. There is nothing wrong with those storylines but I like Emmerdale has put more thought into it. Used to dislike Amelia, but this last year or so she has really improved and is one of the better teens in the show.

Amelia's issues haven't 'sprung up from nowhere and seem oddly misplaced' because her issues stem from negative comments made by Noah earlier this year when he was using her to try and wind up Chloe.

I’m sure people who’ve had eating disorders themselves would wholeheartedly disagree with your comment :|

Daisy Campbell who plays Amelia is pretty though, and she knows it.

I’d have rather them cover this story with Sampson. I think it’s important to show issues like this affect young males too. It’s a good story but unsure on if Amelia was the right character for it.

Daisy Campbell is one of the best young actresses on ED so I think she’ll do justice to Amelia’s eating disorder storyline.

For someone so obsessed with image she doesn’t seem to care that a nice looking lad fancies the pants off her! 🙄

It would be interesting to see Sampson with a storyline like anorexia nervosa, they don't seem to cover it much on the soaps with boys. I like the young actor and think he could handle it.

It makes a change from a young girl thinking she’s too fat.
I assume she’ll end up in hospital and then be fine the day after

That could be interesting. They could also maybe have him become obsessed with exercise, thinking that he has to live up to the social media / reality TV image of the perfect men to impress her, maybe he thinks he has to have a six pack and runs himself into the ground trying.

Chances are they will have him start acting like a dick because he thinks appearing too nice isn't working for him.

I hope Amelia’s eating disorder isn’t one of those storylines which is all but forgotten about after a few months, like Kerry’s diabetes for example. For many people who suffer with these conditions, they are lifelong but try telling the producers that :/

I think it would be nice to just leave Samson as he is. A normal , decent young man.

They’ve done well with Priya’s eating disorder which has been recurring for a few years now where she has regular relapses, especially when she becomes stressed

it could be an interesting plot.
the problem is that amelia comes across as just a lunatic,
considering her past episode in which she run away
& considering how mature & sensible she has been portrayed most of the time.
it is like the lovely girl once in a while loses the plot & starts acting absurdly,
& nothing can be done about it but wait until she comes back to her senses.

I hope that eventually Samson gets through to Amelia. She is a lovely looking girl, but she really doesn't see it herself. Because of this she is turning into a nasty piece of work.
