Even European Judo Said Sergio Ramos' Challenge On Mohamed Salah Was Illegal

Even European Judo Said Sergio Ramos' Challenge On Mohamed Salah Was Illegal

The moment left Salah having to come off injured in the Champions League final four years ago and the Liverpool forward is out for revenge.

Mohamed Salah is out for revenge on Real Madrid in the Champions League final, after being taken out of the same match four years ago by a challenge not even European Judo were happy about.

Salah revealed as far back as the semi final win over Villarreal that he was hoping it would be Carlo Ancelotti's side that he got to take on in Paris.

A raise of the eyebrow against Manchester City later, and Salah has his wish, something that has rather annoyed some of the Real Madrid players.

The reason the Egyptian wants to take on Los Blancos is down to his elimination from the final, against the same opposition, in the final four years ago in Kyiv.

Then the Premier League side had started brightly, with Salah at the centre of it all, until he was forced off injured by a foul by Sergio Ramos in the 31st minute.

Whilst the defender got no punishment, the European Judo Union tweeted a hilarious meme calling out the challenge for its illegality in their own sport.

With Salah off the pitch, the game began to change as Zinedine Zidane's side, going for a third Champions League title in-a-row, began taking control.

They took the lead in the second half, thanks to Loris Karius' mistake, with Karim Benzema slotting home in the 51st minute.

Four years on the key to any success for the Reds in Paris will likely revolve around stopping Benzema, but on that night his goal wasn't enough for victory, with Sadio Mane equalising four minutes later.

Gareth Bale, on as a substitute, then won the match with moments of both sublime and ridiculous, first giving Real the lead again with an acrobatic bicycle kick.

His second was another huge mistake by Karius, as the Welshman's shot from 40 yards was dropped through the keeper's hands.

Salah wasn't the only current Liverpool player affected by his injury in the aftermath, with Harvey Elliott once refusing to meet the man responsible.

Elliott was a youngster at Fulham and his extremely high potential saw him being courted by Europe's elite, before moving to Anfield in 2019.

One of the teams who were after him were Real Madrid, and the Spanish giants tried to impress the teenager by giving him the chance to meet Ramos.

The 19-year-old turned it down due to what he did to Salah, clearly having his teammate's back even before they were teammates, that's commitment!
