Ahead of the opening game of the San Francisco Giants-Cincinnati Reds weekend series on May 27, news broke that there was an altercation between Joc Pederson and Tommy Pham during batting practice. The incident took place in the outfield and both teams had to be separated.

Giants manager Gabe Kapler did not have a comment regarding what took place, a they were investigating what happened.

C. Trent Rosecrans and Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic were first to break the news that Pham slapped Pederson across the face during pregame. Multiple sources told the outlet that beef between the two stemmed from “a disagreement the two had in a group text for a fantasy football league that includes players from several teams.”

Pham was pulled from the lineup ahead of the start of the game, as the outfielder agreed to sit pending the results of a investigation by MLB. Rosecrans and Baggarly report that the Giants actually asked Pham to be pulled from the game, which the Reds refused to do until it was close to first pitch.

The last minute replacement for Pham was Albert Almora Jr.

Pham was suspended three games by MLB, which will cost him $111,000. For a man who’s a big spender in Vegas, clearly he lost a bet on himself.
