On Friday evening, the Waynesboro Area Senior High School held its 114th commencement ceremony for the class of 2022.

The 292 graduates were welcomed into the WASHS gymnasium by the school's wind ensemble. There, the graduates saw friends and family members filling the stands.

“It’s such and important event, and very exciting,” said WASD superintendent Dr. Tod Kline. “It’s what we plan and hope for from kindergarten to high school is to prepare them for this and life after high school.“

This year WASHS has six students who committed to join the United States military,  as well as many attending four-year universities, trade schools and joining the workforce.

The class of 2022 listens to Rachel Bedell, Salutatorian, as she gives her address to the graduating class.

Kline’s advice for the class of 2022 was simple: “If they want to leave a legacy that is greater than themselves, do good things and help others; that’s how you leave a long lasting legacy.”

“We are the class of 2022, we lost a lot of the high school experience; however, we prevailed,” she said. "We were what made our school shine, and I know we will all continue that legacy as we move forward in our lives.

“I’m so proud of our class and you should be proud of yourselves," Arellano-Brookins said. "Nothing can hold us back, and continue that mentality after you walk out of here today. Never let anything or anyone stop you from becoming the best version of yourselves.”

I wish them all the best. I want them to have positive experiences moving forward and great lives in whatever’s next for them.

"I know they will be amazing examples of Boro Strong.”
