Complete results for the Topeka-area schools at the 2022 Kansas high school state track meet

The best track athletes in the state descended on Wichita, with Wichita State University hosting all classes for the state track and field tournament on Friday and Saturday. 

Here's how the Topeka-area athletes performed. 

Hayden (4A)

Boys

The boys (64) finished fourth in the state behind Andale (101), Chanute (71) and Louisburg (67).

Hayden senior Tanner Newkirk set a PR while running the fifth fastest 3200 time in state history and setting the 4A state meet record.

Tanner Newkirk: It was a record-setting weekend for the Hayden senior. First, Newkirk won the 3200 state title, setting a PR on the way to shattering the state meet record with a time of 8:58.88 with the record previously standing at 9:25.19. 

Newkirk would win his second gold in the 1600 on Saturday, setting another state meet record with a 4:12.25 finish, besting the previous time of 4:16.34. 

His third gold came in the 800 where he ran a 1:55 flat. 

Jake Muller: Muller earned two medals over the weekend, in the 110 hurdles where he placed 7th (15.43) before finishing 2nd (39.21) in the 300 hurdles.

Jensen Schrickel: Schrickel earned two state medals, he won the long jump (21-09.5) on Saturday and finished in 7th place (50.95) in the 400 on Friday. 

Joe Otting: Otting finished 12th in the shot put (45-02) and competed in the discus throw resulting in a foul. 

Sean McConnell: McConnell earned a state medal with a 7th place finish (49-07.75) in the shot put and placed 10th (136-00) in the discus throw.

JC Cummings: Cummings finished 10th (158-03) in the javelin throw. 

Daniel Funk: Funk finished 12th (40-00.75) in the triple jump. 

4x100 relay (Jake Muller, Jensen Schrickel, Funk, Ethan Florence): The 4x100 relay team finished 12th (44.6) in prelims on Friday. 

4x400 relay (Muller, Schrickel, Florence, Ryan Rochford): The 4x400 relay team took 3rd with a time of 3:29.93. 

Girls

Liz Moore: Moore placed 12th (32-06.5) in the triple jump.

Jadyn Paige Falley: Paige Falley earned a state medal with a 5th place finish (37-07) in the shot put. 

Natalie Hillebert: Hillebert earned a state medal with a 3rd place finish (1:01.49) in the 400. 

4x100 relay (Miranda Hillebert, Natalie Hillebert, Reagan Huscher, Sarah Schmidt): The 4x100 relay team finished 13th (52:07) on Friday in the prelims. 

4x400 relay (Hillebert, Megan Carr, Riley Schmidtlein): The 4x400 relay team placed 8th (4:26.12).

Highland Park (5A)

Boys 

The Highland Park boys (26) finished 11th behind Mill Valley (63), St. Thomas Aquinas (62), Kpaun Mt. Carmel (56), Andover Central (47), Bishop Carooll (45.5), Piper (42), Andover (36), De Soto (29), Hays (28.5) and St. James Academy (27.5). 

Tre Richardson: Richardson won three state medals, taking 1st (22.32) in the 200, 5th in the long jump (21-04) and 2nd (46-09) in the triple jump. 

Tyrell Reed: Reed placed 6th (11.04) in the 100 prelims on Saturday and would place 7th in the state with a time of 10.95. 

Keijuan Johnson: Johnson placed 7th in the 300 hurdles (41.69). 

Girls 

Victoria Reed: Reed won two medals, winning a state title in the 400 (58.04) and placing 6th in the 200 (26.95).

Rossville (3A)

Boys 

Pedro Arantes: Arantes qualified for the 100 finals and finished in 5th place (10.87).

4x100 relay (Arantes, Hunter Webb, Hunter Broce, Braiden Hensley): The 4x100 relay team placed 9th (45.19) in prelims.

Girls 

Briar Gillum: Gillum earned two state medals on Friday, placing 2nd  (41-06) in the  and winning the state title in the discus throw, with a hurl of 135-11, breaking her own school record.

Amelia Foster: Foster placed 9th (1:01.6) in the 400 prelims and placed 7th (2:28.76) in the 800 on Saturday to earn a state medal.

Kendra Hurla: Hurla tied for 15th (4-08) in the high jump. 

Seaman (5A)

Boys

Branen Moore: Moore placed 15th (2:08.11) in the 800. 

Jace Moore: Moore placed 13th (10:10.05) in the 3200 and 15th (4:44.11) in the 1600.

Sean Miller: Miller earned a state medal in the shot put with an 8th place finish (46-01.5).

4x100 relay (Aaron Merritt, Jacob Anderson, Jaxson Thomas, Adonis Vanleeuwen): The 4x100 relay team finished 11th (43.78) in prelims on Friday. 

4x800 relay (Branen Moore, Zach Jowers, Landon Stuke, Jace Moore): The 4x800 relay team placed 10th with a time of 8:33.55.

Girls 

Bethany Druse: Druse earned a gold medal, winning the 800 with a time of 2:19.

Taylie Heston: Heston placed 16th (1:04.42) in the 400 prelims. 

Taylin Stallbaumer: Stallbaumer earned a state medal with a 5th place finish (15.86) in the 100 hurdles. 

Anna Domann: Domann finished in 13th place (33-01) in the shot put prelims. 

Ally Trier: Trier placed 13th in the javelin throw (102-03). 

4x100 relay (Carmen Leon Monzon, Ally Steiner, Jaida Stallbaumer, Jaycee Schumann):  The 4x100 relay team finished 15th (51.96) in the prelims on Friday. 

4x400 relay (Bethany Druse, Anna Becker, Jaida Stallbaumer, Taylin Stallbaumer): The 4x400 relay team finished 8th (4:16.23).

4x800 relay (Druse, Becker, Savannah Sampson, Heston): The 4x800 relay finished 7th (10:13.95).

Shawnee Heights (5A)

Boys

Shawnee Heights sophomore Jackson Esquibel looks to make a move during the 3200 finals Friday.

Jackson Esquibel: Esquibel won a state medal with a 6th place finish (9:36.78) in the 3200 and placed 9th (4:30.67) in the 1600. 

Jordan Garvin: Garvin earned a state medal with a 4th place finish (40.68) in the 300 hurdles. 

Ja'Laveyn January: January earned a state medal with a 4th place finish (23.14) in the 200.

Maddox Moten: Moten earned a state medal with an 8th place finish (141-06)  in the discus and finished in 11th (43-02.25) in the shot put. 

David Skinner: Skinner took 12th (145-09) in the javelin throw. 

Girls 

The Shawnee Heights girls (24) tied for 11th behind Mill Valley (75.5), Great Bend (67), Kapaun Mt. Carmel (66), Salina Central (47), Goddard Eisenhower (38), Spring Hill (38), Piper (37), St. James Academy (34), Andover Central (28.5) and Bishop Caroll (25). 

Ta-Mijha Nichols: Nichols qualified for the 100 finals with a 5th finish in prelims and took 2nd place (11.98) to earn a state medal. 

Taylor Rottinghaus: Rottinghaus earned a state medal with a 2nd place finish (59.65) in the 400 and finished in 13th place (26.9) in the 200 prelims. 

4x100 relay (Hailey Anderson, Nichols, Haley Haltom, Rottinghaus): The 4x100 relay team earned a 2nd place finish (49.51).

4x400 relay (Anderson, Haltom, Rottinghaus, Imani Akins): The 4x400 relay team finished 15th (4:22.33) in prelims. 

Silver Lake (3A)

Boys

The Silver Lake boys (27) finished tied for 7th with Nemaha Central and Marian behind Southeast of Saline (94), Burlington (50), Wichita Collegiate (48), Marysville (41), Lakin (33), and Wichita Trinity (30). 

Brogan Renfro: Renfro earned state medals with a 7th finish (42-05.25) in the high jump, a 4th place finish (24.24) in the 200 and a 6th place finish (22.66) in the 100.

Carson Johnson: Johnson finished 10th (16.53) in the 110 hurdle prelims and earned a state medal in the 300 hurdles with a 2nd place finish (41.23). 

Troy Heiman: Heiman placed 14th (24.07) in the 200 prelims.

Conner Adams: Adams tied for 11th (19-09.75) in the long jump. 

Channer Feuerbacher: Feuerbacher finished in 12th place (146-09) in the javelin throw.

4x100 relay (Johnson, Heiman, Adams, Kale Frehe): The 4x100 relay team finished 7th (45.06). 

4x400 relay (Frehe, Johnson, Brogan Renfro, Kamryn Kaniper): The 4x400 relay team finished in 6th place (3:37.03). 

4x800 relay (Cameron TenEyck, Eli Ferguson, Mason Brokaw, Kaniper): The 4x800 relay team finished in 5th place (8:37.1). 

Girls

Tessa Gerber: Gerber earned a state medal in the 3200 with an 8th place finish (12:34.87) on Friday and finished 13th (6:00.45) in the 1600. 

Ellen Doty: Doty finished 16th (8-0) in the pole vault. 

Kaibryn Kruger: Kruger earned a state medal with an 8th place finish (34-06.5) in the triple jump.

Ava Rottinghaus: Rottinghaus placed 11th (109-4) in the javelin throw. 

4x800 relay (Gerber, Ella Bolan, Doty, Mariah Farmer): The 4x800 relay team placed 14th (11:13.22).

Topeka High (6A)

Boys

V'Ante Peoples: Peoples finished 13th (23.24) in the 200 prelims. 

Dylan Blankenship: Blankenship finished 11th (51.51) in the 400 prelims. 

4x100 relay (Peoples, Jaziah Mack, Logan Murray, DyKestair Matlock): The 4x100 relay team finished 11th (44.03) in prelims on Friday. 

Topeka West (5A)

Boys

Lenny Njoroge: Njoroge earned a state medal in the 3200 with a fourth-place (9:33.36) finish and took 11th (4:30.71) in the 1600.

Zsamar Sipple: Sipple earned state medals with a 3rd place finish (22-03.25) in the long jump and a 4th place finish (45-03.75) in the triple jump. 

Louis Wilson: Wilson placed 11th (2:05.31) in the 800. 

Alesecio Batson: Batson finished 15th (43.78) in the 300 hurdle prelims and finished 15th (39-05.75) in the triple jump. 

Caleb Noonoo: Noonoo took 13th (5-10) in the high jump.

4x800 relay (Louis Wilson, Lenny Njoroge, Elijah Phelps, Mark Wilkie): The 4x800 relay team finished in 11th place (8:35.19)

Girls 

Ala'Jah Brooks: Brooks finished 9th (26.47) in the 200 prelims and 11th (12.99) in the 100 prelims. 

Anna Phelps: Phelps placed 13th (12:08.1) in the 3200 and 13th (5:46.01) in the 1600. 

Topeka West senior Anna Phelps runs in the 3200 finals on Friday.

Makinsey Jones: Jones earned a state medal, placing 4th (34-09) in the triple jump. 

Shontal Phillips: Phillips placed 9th (33-06.75) in the triple jump. 

Washburn Rural (6A)

Boys

Washburn Rural senior Zach Sulzen-Watson prepares to throw on Friday.

Zach Sulzen-Watson: Sulzen-Watson earned two state medals, placing 3rd (54-00.25)  in the shot put and 2nd (172) in the discus throw. 

Joshua Sulzen-Watson: Sulzen-Watson placed 9th (152-11) in the javelin throw and took 11th (141-07) in the discus throw. 

Spencer Haddock: Haddock placed 15th (10:15.73) in the 3200.

Washburn Rural senior Spencer Haddock runs in the 3200 finals on Friday.

Cody Ingerthron: Ingerthron placed 12th (15.92) in the 110 hurdle prelims and 16th (44.38) in the 300 hurdle prelims. 

Walker Thompson: Thompson earned a state medal with an 8th place finish (154-05) in the javelin throw. 

Reece Godby: Godby placed 15th (137-02) in the javelin throw. 

4x800 relay (Easton Dial, Spencer Haddock, Hayden Keller, Ben Buessing): The 4x800 relay team finished in 13 place (8:39.74)

Girls 

Payton Fink: Fink placed 10th (11:46.12) in the 3200 and 9th (5:39.1) in the 1600. 

Washburn Rural freshman Payton Fink ran in the 3200 finals on Friday.

Khloi Bird: Bird placed 14th (2:34.05) in the 800. 

Rylee Ismert: Ismert earned a state medial with a 7th place finish (5:32.95) in the 1600. 

Madeline Carter: Carter earned a state medal in the 3200 with an 8th place (11:26.62) finish and a PR. 

Washburn Rural junior Maddie Carter set a PR in the 3200 finals on Friday.

Raegen Peterson: Peterson earned a state medal with a 7th place finish (111-02) in the discus throw and finished 13th (95-04) in the javelin throw.
