A third arrest has been made in connection with the March 31 shooting death of a Delbarton woman.

On May 23, Brittany Garlock, of Rockhouse Creek Road in Delbarton, was arrested in Kanawha County on charges of first-degree murder and of accessory after the fact. The warrant for her arrest was executed on May 20 by Mingo County Magistrate Jim Harvey.

Garlock, 30, along with Alex Dewayne Likens, 36, of Ragland, and Chace M. Prater, 27, of Williamson are currently in custody at the Southwestern Regional Jail in Holden as part of an ongoing investigation into the death of Tessa Harmon. The original complaint against Prater, filed when he was arrested on April 22, alleges he shot Harmon — his aunt — in the head causing her death.

Each of the three have been charged with first-degree murder. Garlock has the added charge of accessory after the fact. Both Likens and Prater have additional charges against them for conspiracy to commit first-degree murder.

Records from the Mingo County Magistrate Court state that Garlock was first questioned by Mingo County Sheriff Sgt. N. Mines and Cpl. R. Fitch on April 26. The document further states: “During her questioning she was asked about the location of the murder weapon that she admitted to having in her possession after the murder. She told officers that she did not know what happened to the firearm; that it had been stolen out of her camper; and that she believed it had been transferred to numerous individuals but did not know where.”

On April 27, Fitch, accompanied by Cpl. Thomas, went to Garlock’s camper to question her a second time.

According to court documents, the officer told Garlock that Likens — her boyfriend — had told them she had the gun in her possession.

“At that time, she became angry and immediately called (another person),” the complaint states. Fitch said he could hear the other person on the phone call but could not discern the conversation.

“So, Cpl. Fitch asked her what he had said,” the complaint continues. “She replied that he said the gun had been melted.”

The record went on to allege that Garlock had transferred the gun to (the other person) without Likens’ knowledge.

No bond has been set for Garlock, Likens or Prater.
