The runner-up is calling for a recount in a hotly contested Louisville Metro Council race. Ray Barker filed a lawsuit after losing last week's Democratic primary to District 5 Councilmember Donna Purvis by 35 votes. Barker claims someone at the board of elections told him after the polls had closed he had won by 12 votes.But the next morning, he learned a memory stick for the Whitney Young precinct had turned up and put Purvis ahead. Barker claims there were 68 more votes counted than there are Democratic registered voters in that precinct. A recanvas of the race by the board of elections did not change the results. We reached out to Purvis but she declined to comment.
