The Los Angeles Lakers have been doing an extensive search for their next head coach and they've finally made a decision. The organization is hiring Milwaukee Bucks assistant Darvin Ham as their next boss.

Via Shams:

The Lakers had cut down their list of candidates to Ham, Terry Stotts, and Kenny Atkinson. This is Ham's first head coaching gig in the NBA after many years as an assistant. He also spent two seasons on the LA bench from 2011-13.

An NBA champion as a player with the 2004 Detroit Pistons and as a coach with the Milwaukee Bucks last season, Ham brings lots of experience to the table but he will have a tall task ahead as the franchise looks to improve upon a horrendous 33-49 record in 2021-22 where they missed out on the postseason and the Play-In Tournament. LA decided to fire Frank Vogel only days after the regular season ended as well.

Per Woj, the Lakers were impressed by Ham because of his championship experience and ability to coach stars, such as Giannis Antetokounmpo:

Reports last week indicated that LeBron James was intrigued by the idea of Ham being the next HC in Los Angeles and now he gets his wish. Hopefully, the 48-year-old can help Russell Westbrook also bounce back after a brutal first season with the Lakers. Due to his massive contract, it's likely he stays put this summer.

Congrats to Darvin Ham on his debut HC job. Needless to say, it will come with boatloads of pressure.
