After a lengthy wait, the Cleveland Browns came to terms with tight end David Njoku on a new extension deal on Friday. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport noted that Njoku reached an agreement with the Browns for a four-year deal worth $56.75 million that also included $28 million guaranteed upfront.

After the deal was reported, Njoku took to Twitter to provide a reaction to his new multiyear contract.

“Staying home,” Njoku said. “Cleveland thank you I’ll give u everything I got in me!!”

Njoku was in quite a dilemma with the Browns regarding his long-term future in Cleveland. The team opted to place the franchise tag on him in March. This move by the Browns had meant that they had until mid-July to either agree on a new contract with the tight end or have him play the 2022 season on the franchise tender. But after talks between both sides ramped up in the past weeks, the two were ultimately able to sign off on a new deal.

Njoku is just coming off of a 2021 season where he recorded 475 receiving yards to go along with a career-high in yards per touch (12.9). He was not necessarily the team's main, go-to option at tight end, as Browns offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt also called upon Austin Hooper to receive crucial snaps at the position. Hooper, who signed with the Tennessee Titans in free agency, tallied 348 receiving yards and three total touchdowns in 16 games played with Cleveland last year.

Overall, the Browns are slated to also feature Harrison Bryant at the tight end position for the upcoming 2022 campaign.
