In a video on YouTube about the incident, Stockton police do not allege the person who was shot, Sam Barlow, had fired a gun at the officer. The video does not say he was charged with a crime, but alleges Barlow was in possession of a loaded gun magazine.

Two officers, Gerardo Munoz and Kirsten McClure, first responded to the March 12 disturbance call in the 500 block of E. Bianchi Road at around 10:30 p.m.

While there, they heard multiple gunshots and believed they were being shot at by someone “in or near” a black Chrysler, according to the account from police.

Stockton police’s YouTube video contains body camera footage from both officers. Officer Munoz’s camera does not appear to have audio turned on until shortly before the officer fires his gun multiple times in the direction of a car that has rounded a corner.

Officer McClure’s camera footage contains what appears to be the sound of gunshots further away before both officers fired their weapons.

Officers later found a loaded rifle and a magazine in the Chrysler which was found about three blocks from the shooting scene, according to police. The car was registered to Barlow, the person who was shot by Officer Munoz. Barlow was taken to a hospital in critical but stable condition. He has since been released from the hospital.

The two officers were not injured.

Asked by KCRA 3 if Barlow had fired a weapon, police responded that “it’s still an active investigation.”
