The Boston Bruins could be without Brad Marchand for the first couple of months of the 2022-23 season.

According to Frank Seravalli, Marchand underwent surgery on both of his hips on Friday. The expected recovery time is six months, so if all goes according to plan, Marchand would return to the Bruins in late November.

This is a big blow for the Bruins, a team that could be without their captain next season. Patrice Bergeron is an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career this summer and there’s no guarantee that he’ll continue playing.

Marchand, who just turned 34 years old a couple of weeks ago, led the Bruins with 80 points this season. He was also the Bruins’ leading scorer in the playoffs, as he scored 11 points over the course of seven games during Boston’s first-round loss to the Carolina Hurricanes.

The Bruins will lean on Taylor Hall during Marchand’s absence. Hall was productive in his first full season in Boston this year, scoring 20 goals and 61 points. Another player the Bruins could lean on is Jake DeBrusk, who had a rebound performance after a difficult 2021, scoring 25 goals across 77 games.
