The B1G Baseball Tournament has a flair for the dramatic, and Friday afternoon produced another nail-biter that required extra innings to decide a winner.

For much of the game between Rutgers and Penn State, Scarlet Knights pitcher Nathan Florence was way ahead of the Nittany Lion offense. Florence made it through 8 shutout innings before being pulled after putting the leadoff runner on in the bottom of the 9th. That started what would become an epic rally for Penn State.

The Nittany Lions would eventually tack on 3 earned runs against Rutgers reliever Ben Gorski. It was a 2-run triple with 2 outs off the bat of Johnny Piacentino that tied the game at 4-all.

Sam Bello would shut the door there for Rutgers and send this game to extra innings. After blowing the lead, Rutgers did not wait long to go back ahead.

Richie Schiekofer delivered a sacrifice fly to get the Scarlet Knights back on top at 5-4:

After slamming the door shut in the 9th inning, Bello came back out for the 10th inning. He finished the win off with a clean inning and ended it with a called third strike to keep Rutgers in the winner’s bracket.

With the loss, Penn State drops into an elimination game with a rematch vs. Iowa. That game is set for 9 am Saturday. The Nittany Lions opened the tournament with a win over the Hawkeyes in Game 1.
