Consolidated Communications said Friday it had a service interruption that affected businesses, DSL customers and cellphone service in central and southern Vermont.
“All services have been fully restored,” spokesperson Nicole Elton said. “We understand this is frustrating, and we apologize for this disruption.”
Clay Purvis, director of the Telecommunications and Connectivity Division of the Vermont Department of Public Service, said Consolidated had an outage of data services at its Brattleboro central office, which affected towns around Brattleboro.
Purvis said the outage affected internet service and voice-over-internet protocol service, which he said could have affected Brattleboro Memorial Hospital.
A phone call to a hospital spokesperson during the outage reached an automatic message saying the hospital was experiencing phone problems. The spokesperson did not respond to a text message asking for more information.
Purvis said Consolidated brought in equipment from New Hampshire to replace some failed cards in the Brattleboro central office.
“They had a hardware issue in the building,” Purvis said.
Consolidated is one of the companies laying fiber optic cable in southern and central Vermont as part of the state’s ambitious plan to connect every home to high-speed internet.
