BLOOMINGTON (WEEK) -A community coming together and getting to know their local officers.

This was the goal today behind Bloomington’s inaugural Walk and Talk

Four officers from the Command Unit along with Alderwoman Mollie Ward walked up and down West Monroe and Jefferson Street this afternoon knocking on doors and chatting up the neighbors.

Police Chief Jamal Simington says he wants to create trust and allow the community to know the police on a first name basis.

“Hopefully that will continue to open up doors and opportunities for continuous collaboration,” He says, “We want our residents to pick up the phone and call us when they are having problems and certainly when they are not. So we can maintain an ongoing dialogue.”

More walks like these are expected in more neighborhoods throughout this summer.
