The Uvalde shooting has left many staff, parents, and students feeling unsafe.
In the past days, several school campuses in El Paso received a non-credible threats.
Emily Dawson has been the chief of the juvenile unit for four years and worked for the county since 2007.
Dawson made it a point to emphasize that a threat, whether credible or not, will be prosecuted.
"If you’re 17 years old and you do this, you’re going down to the county jail and be prosecuted in the adults system by the district attorney’s office," Dawson said.
In the state of Texas, you are considered an adult at 17 years old.
Dawson warned juveniles to think before they act.
"They are absolutely punishable an element of this offense specifically is that you know it is false, in other words, you know when you make it, you know it is a joke or that you’re not going to do it, that is actually an element of this felony level offense," Dawson said.
In recent days Bel Air High School, Wiggs Middle School and Morehead Middle School, amongst others received non-credible threats.
Still, that didn't stop Victor Payan, a parent at Morehead Middle School, from picking his child up from school.
"“It’s unfortunate, we’re all scared, we’re worried with what happened in Uvalde and unfortunately there’s still messages being sent frightening people.” Payan said.
His son is a sixth- grader at Morehead Middle School and was shaken by the events that happened this week.
"I feel scared and sometimes like nervous about this happening ... I'm more safe with my parents," the student said.
CBS4 reached out to El Paso Independent and received a statement:
We communicate to parents as soon as we hear about actual threats to the school. The supposed threats kids spread at Morehead were shared on social media for a "MS" that we determined was not in El Paso. In fact, it was late reported as a Garza Middle School. The threat was not credible.
Regardless if a threat is credible or not, Dawson wants parents to know their kids safety is a top priority.
"If you see it report it, know we have excellent law enforcement in El Paso ... know if a threat is made law enforcement runs towards that immediately," Dawson said.
