Body discovered in Floyd County river

PRESTONSBURG, Ky. (FOX 56) – A body was discovered Wednesday at a river in Floyd County.

Kentucky State Police said in a statement that emergency personnel found the unidentified body in the Levisa Fork River.

Prestonsburg 911 received a tip about a vehicle with possible ties to an ongoing investigation. According to the police department, they confirmed the make and model of the vehicle and began searching the river bank and bed.

According to Prestonsburg police, this is when the human remains were found near the Riverside Drive area.

Prestonsburg Police Department then called the Kentucky State Police Pikeville post to investigate around 3 p.m., according to KSP.

The body was sent to the state medical examiner’s office for autopsy and identification. The cause of death is still under investigation.

Prestonsburg police told FOX 56 that Kentucky State Police are now leading the investigation.
