Wednesday, the Butte Interagency Narcotics Task Force (BINTF) with help from a Butte County Sheriff's deputy, arrested a man suspected of selling fentanyl and methamphetamine.
According to the BINTF, a search warrant had been issued for 41-year-old Luis Manuel Magana-Garcia, of Oroville.
A Butte County Sheriff's deputy pulled over Magana-Garcia and searched his vehicle. During this time, BINTF agents also performed a search of Magana-Garcia's home and other vehicle parked at the property.
During the search of his vehicle, the deputy found 51 suspected fentanyl pills in the form of counterfeit oxycodone pills. The search of Magana-Garcia's home and other vehicle revealed over 300 more suspected fentanyl pills, as well as 189 grams of methamphetamine, a .45 caliber handgun, ammunition, and packing materials and scales indicating sales. Over $1,100 dollars in cash and jewelry were also seized during the search.
Magana-Garcia was arrested and booked into the Butte County Jail on charges of possession and transportation of fentanyl and methamphetamine for sales purposes. His bail was set at $75,000.
According to BINTF, 114 people in Butte County died from illicit drug overdoses in 2021, most of which involved fentanyl and methamphetamine.
