Tornado touches down in north Alabama during Thursday’s storms

An EF-1 tornado was confirmed from Thursday's round of rain and storms. The tornado was in Morgan County in north Alabama.

Thursday’s round of storms produced a tornado in north Alabama.

The National Weather Service in Huntsville said a preliminary damage survey found an EF-1 tornado touched down east of Falkville in Morgan County on Thursday afternoon.

The weather service hasn’t released its full report on the storm yet but said on Friday afternoon that the tornado had winds up to 95 mph.

The tornado had a path that was about 100 yards wide and 0.68 miles long.

The weather service got reports of trees and power lines down near Falkville when the storm came through just before 1:30 p.m. on Thursday.

The weather service said more information on the storm would be released on Saturday.

Thursday’s tornado is No. 71 for 2022 so far in Alabama.
