Newcastle United could very well be on the lookout for a new striker this summer. Neither Callum Wilson nor Chris Wood were able to find the back of the net on a consistent basis this season, although in case of the former, it must be pointed out that he spent several months out of action with injury and did impress upon his return towards the end of the season.

Still, if the Magpies are to challenge for a top six spot in the near future, they will need someone who can find the back of the net game after game.

Tammy Abraham is someone who has shown that he can do that this season at AS Roma, capping it off by winning the UEFA Europa Conference League title. According to stats from Transfermarkt, the English striker scored 27 goals and provided 5 assists in 53 appearances for Jose Mourinho’s side.

As reported by 90min, Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Arsenal are all understood to have made contact with intermediaries to ask about Abraham’s situation. But there is some bad news in this regard. The player is happy working under Mourinho and is in no hurry to leave Rome.

Abraham to Newcastle United transfer update

Thus, it looks like a move to Newcastle United might very well be off the table for Abraham this summer, although never say never in football.

Someone like Abraham could have been an excellent signing for the Magpies. He already has Premier League experience from his time at Chelsea and had good spells for the Blues as well, before departing the club, after lack of playing time.

He has proven at AS Roma though that he can lead the line for even a top club. Thus, the likes of Newcastle United should consider a move for the striker for sure.

Of course, as things stand, it does not look like Newcastle United will be able to sign him this summer. They have been linked with several other strikers in recent times like Darwin Nunez, Victor Osimhen, Hugo Ekitike, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and more.
