Christian County Grand Jury Returns Indictments For Drug Trafficking

The Christian County Grand Jury returned several indictments Friday, including charges of drug trafficking, promoting contraband, and receiving stolen property.

A true bill was returned on 19-year old Jakiyah Victoria Hinton, of Hopkinsville, on charges of trafficking in a controlled substance, Carfentanil or Fentanyl derivatives, first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance – cocaine over 4 grams, and possession of marijuana.

The charges stem from April 28th when Hopkinsville police responded to a welfare check on East 9th Street and found Hinton in a vehicle that smelled of marijuana. After a search of Hinton’s purse, officers reported they found 10 grams of Fentanyl and 31 grams of cocaine along with a small amount of marijuana.

32-year old Tavaris Jamall Quarles, of Hopkinsville, was indicted on charges of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, second offense, less than 4 grams of Cocaine, and tampering with physical evidence.

The indictment alleges that on April 1 Quarles was unlawfully possessing a quantity of cocaine, a Schedule II controlled substance, with the intent to sell of transfer it after having been previously convicted of the same offense on at least one prior occasion. Quarles then reportedly removed or altered physical evidence that he believed was about to be produced or used in an official proceeding.

44-year old Alphonzo Marcellas Ivory, of Hopkinsville, was indicted on charges of trafficking in hemp greater than 5 pounds, first-degree possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. The charges stem from April 22nd.

A true bill was returned on 48-year old Steven Wayne Amburgey, of Covington, on four counts of first-degree promoting contraband. The indictment indicates on May 5, Amburgey was found in possession of an e-cigarette, marijuana and/or synthetic marijuana, meth and suboxone in the Christian County Jail.

And 24-year old Michael Eugene Sims, of Hopkinsville, was indicted on a charge of receiving stolen property over $1,000 under $10,000 According to the indictment, Sims reportedly possessed a Ford F150 that he didn’t belong to and knew that it was stolen.
