Man hospitalized after being hit by excavator

UTICA, Ill. (WEEK) -A man has been life-flighted to OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, after being hit by a excavator and being knocked into a hole.

A press release from the Utica Fire Protection District Fire Chief says it happened around 11:30 AM Friday morning during demolition of the Old Waltham School.

Once crews arrived, they determined the man fell about 16 to 20 feet into the boiler room of the basement area.

He was treated and transported by Utica EMS to the Peru Airport, where he was transferred to OSF St. Francis Medical Center.

A Lieutenant with the Utica Fire Protection District says the man’s injuries are considered serious, but non-life threatening.
