Teen hurt, two arrested following South Boston shooting

UPDATE 1:32 p.m. (6/1/22): The South Boston Police Department confirmed to WFXR News that a second man has been arrested in connection with the Thursday night shooting that injured a 14-year-old at Willow Oaks Apartments.

According to officials, 18-year-old Montre’el Alijah Claiborne was taken into custody on Saturday, May 28 and is being held without bond at the Halifax County Adult Detention Center for the following charges:

Discharging a firearm at an occupied building
Maliciously shooting at an occupied vehicle
Recklessly handling a firearm to endanger life, limb, or property

SOUTH BOSTON, Va. (WFXR) — A man is facing multiple charges after a Thursday night shooting at Willow Oaks Apartments in South Boston left a 14-year-old injured.

According to the South Boston Police Department, at approximately 7:38 p.m. on Thursday, May 26, officers responded to the 300 block of Poplar Creek Street for a report of shots fired.

When police arrived at the scene, they found multiple cartridge casings in the road.

The department says witnesses reported seeing a man drive a four-door vehicle up to Willow Oaks Apartments and exchange gunfire with another man standing in the apartment complex.

Authorities say both men shot multiple rounds at each other, with one bullet hitting the Miller Homes apartment complex and another bullet grazing a 14-year-old, resulting in a non-life-threatening injury.

Police tell WFXR News they found the suspect vehicle — which had several bullet holes in it — at Westside Trailer Park.

According to officials, one of the gunmen was identified as 22-year-old ShyQuan Isiah Jacobs, who was arrested by South Boston Cpl. Blake Jones and charged with the following offenses:
