Man, 42, dead after early Friday altercation; Amarillo homicide detectives investigating

The Amarillo Police Department is investigating a fight involving multiple people early Friday that left one man dead. 

Around 1 a.m., Amarillo officers were dispatched to the 1100 block of Bluebell Street for a reported disturbance. Mohamad Al Obeidi, 42, was found with injuries consistent with blunt force trauma. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers concluded that a physical altercation occurred between multiple individuals. Police said the individuals involved have been detained and interviewed by the Amarillo Police Department Homicide Detectives.

"This is a big weekend with Memorial Day and graduations. We know that emotions are going to run high, and people are going to be celebrating. Just remember to be kind to each other, and call for help if necessary. We hope everyone has a fun and safe holiday weekend," said Carla Burr, Public Information Officer for APD.

An autopsy will be done in Lubbock to help with this investigation.

No arrests have been made at this time, and the investigation is still ongoing.
