Josh Brolin roasts Stephen Colbert for never watching The Goonies: 'Ever? You're the one?'

Goonies never say die — not that Stephen Colbert would know.

Josh Brolin, who counts himself among Colbert's longtime friends, appeared on the host's late-night show Thursday and participated in the rapid-fire segment "The Colbert Questionnaire." When asking Brolin things like what he thinks the scariest animal is and if he prefers apples or oranges, he tossed something a little deeper into the mix: "What do you think happens when we die?"

Brolin quickly delivered an answer to that, thanks to a helpful audience member: "Goonies never say die," they shouted, which is a catchphrase from Brolin's teen-adventure classic The Goonies. But his wittiness was lost on Colbert, who admitted that, um, he's never seen it.

"Oh, come on dude," Brolin replied, certain that his (alleged) friend was joking, before he realized he wasn't. "Ever? You're the one?"

Colbert tried to explain, saying he was "just a little too old" for the movie, to which Brolin responded, "There is no too old for Goonies. There's generation after generation... so sad."

Directed by Richard Donner and starring Brolin, Sean Astin, Jeff Cohen, Ke Huy Quan, Martha Plimpton, and Corey Feldman, The Goonies follows a group of misfit kids who discover an ancient map and set out on a journey to find lost treasure. It became a cult favorite following its premiere in 1985 and is now an integral part of film history.

Don't worry, though — Colbert isn't so out of touch that he hasn't seen any of the classics. He confessed that while he hasn't watched The Goonies or The Shawshank Redemption (!!!), he has at least seen Jaws. But that didn't make Brolin feel better.

"You can't go, 'Yeah, I saw Jaws, and say, 'No, I haven't seen Goonies — is it good?'" Brolin insisted. "You can't be that guy."

"I'm going to watch it," Colbert ultimately declared to his (former?) friend. "And I'm going to watch it and call you up after."

"You have to, literally," Brolin said. "I'll give you a number. Not my number..." Ouch.
