Field Filling up for Local Elections

WINONA, Minn. (KWNO)-The field of candidates filing to run for local offices is starting to take shape.  

The Minnesota Secretary of State’s website shows candidates for all three Winona City Council seats up for election this year. At-Large Councilwoman Michelle Alexander is being challenged by Jerome Christenson, Fourth Ward Councilman George Borzykowski has a challenger in Amber Buysman and Jeff Hyma has filed to run for the city’s second ward, a seat held by Eileen Moeller who has yet to file for reelection.  

Winona County Board Commissioner Marcia Ward is being challenged for the fifth district seat by Bob Redig. Jerry Obieglo and Dwayne Boegli have thrown their hats in the ring for the second district seat held by Marie Kovecsi, who has yet to file.  

First District Commissioner Chris Meyer has filed for reelection and is unopposed as of Friday morning.

No challengers have filed for three seats open on the Winona Area Public Schools Board. At-Large member Nancy Denzer and Second District member Micheal Hanratty have filed for reelection. 

No one has filed for the First District, which will not feature an incumbent after Steve Schild announced he will not seek reelection.
