Gaynor Fitch

Gaynor P. Fitch, 73, passed away Saturday, May 7, 2022, at Norway Health and Rehab, in Androscoggin Hospice Care.

He was born July 24, 1948, in Portland the son of Myron and Lois (Adams) Fitch of Bridgton. Gaynor attended school in Bridgton. As a young adult, he moved to Norway where he met and married Beverly Pratt. To that union one son, Christopher Gaynor was born.

Gaynor was well known around Norway as he walked everywhere he went. He was, friendly, kind, generous and humble. Although he suffered in many ways through his life, he carried himself with dignity. He was once asked in a newspaper interview, “what would you like people to know about you?” He answered: “I have been the best person I could be and always did the best I could do. I have always tried to be honest.”

Gaynor’s work included CB Cummings, Norway Post Office, Norway Fire Department and Arsenault Auctions. He also offered a long list of handyman services. In another interview in 2003, the headline was “Authentic Maine Handyman” helps things run smoothly. One of his proudest moments was his recognition by the Norway Fire Department for his years of service.

He was predeceased by his parents, his son Christopher, his nephew Mark L. Fitch, a sister-in-law Chery Fitch, and a cousin, Harriet (Adams) Connors and a very special person in his life, Kathleen Pierce.

He is survived by one sister, Claudia of Otisfield, and two brothers, Michael of Bridgton and Gregory (Holly) of North Conway, N.H., nephew Dane Fitch (Aubrey) of Conway, N.H., niece Shelly Ann Watson of Naples and two grandchildren Christopher Nelson of Norway and Annabelle Mae Fitch of Auburn.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Catherine of Sienna Church in Norway on May 31, at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Gracelawn Cemetery in Auburn. A time of visitation will be held at Chandler Funeral Home, 45 Main Street, South Paris on May30, from 2–4p.m.
