Two Winona Area Kids Among Winners of State’s “Kids Deserve a Shot” COVID Vaccination Effort

(KWNO)-Two kids from the Winona area are among five winners of  Minnesota’s “Kids Deserve a Shot” COVID-19 vaccination campaign.

Winona’s Latsch Boysen and Rushford’s Peyton Cords were each randomly chosen to receive $100,000 scholarships for completing their COVID-19 vaccination series last year. The campaign was rolled out last year as part of an effort to incentivize vaccinating the youngest eligible Minnesotans against COVID-19.

Health officials are now encouraging 5–11-year-olds to get their Pfizer booster doses.

“It’s recommended that they get it at least five months after their primary series,” Winona County Public Health Supervisor Melanie Frazier said. “The reason for that, just like we’ve seen with the other populations, the vaccine’s efficacy or effectiveness starts to wain after a while.”
