Going to the Galesburg Memorial Day Parade? Here's what you need to know

GALESBURG — The Memorial Day parade will return to Galesburg on Monday, May 30, after a two-year hiatus during the pandemic.

Frances Hawthorne, president of the Galesburg’s Veteran of Foreign Wars auxiliary, said the parade will start at 10 a.m. at Main and Chambers streets and march west on Main Street before turning south on Cherry Street and finishing at the Knox County Courthouse.

Parade participants can meet near Main and Chambers streets at 9 a.m. Hawthorne said about 27 different organizations have already signed up, including members of The American Legion, AMVETS and Galesburg High School and Churchill Junior High Band.

Galesburg’s last Memorial Day parade took place in 2019.

"We haven't had it because of COVID and they need to remember, people need to remember and honor our veterans who have served,” Hawthorne said.
