BRISTOL, Conn. (WTNH) — A Pit bull that was on the loose has been found by Bristol Police after a responding officer shot the dog.

The Bristol Police Department responded to 77 French St. for a vicious dog complaint, and at the scene, officers found a Pit bull actively attacking an individual. Police said an officer had to shoot the Pit bull, but it took off. Responders asked people in the area to keep an eye out for the medium brown dog, but to not approach it.

Around 6 a.m. Saturday morning, the dog was found in the area of Morningside Dr. after a person reported a roaming animal. Officers were able to capture the dog and transfer it to a veterinary hospital for treatment.

According to responding officers, the Pit bull’s owner has been identified. Officials say the attack was unprovoked and random.

There has been no word on the fate of the dog, and the dog’s status is unknown at the time.
