Wolfridge Golf Course is one of the 12 courses we have featured on The Northland Golf Card this year. I've played it several times over the years, but it has been a while. This week I made the trip to Angora, Minnesota to play a round of golf.

This course is challenging! I lost far more balls than I had hoped to with the 30 water hazards on the course. It's a unique course as well because it's only one of four reversible courses in Minnesota. There are 9 pins, but the tee boxes and reversible layout make it 18 holes.

The most challenging and fun holes are kind of grouped together on top of a mountain. I call it a mountain, but it's really just a big hill. Several holes use the elevation to make it challenging. I was playing the blue course first and when we got to hole number 4, I realized how tough this could be. You're hitting a tee shot of only 105 yards, but the green is straight down, with a water hazard right over the back. Even with a light pitching wedge I almost rolled into the water.

Next on the blue course was hole 5, which was only a 140-yard par 3, but it shoots back up the hill you were just on. I think this one might have been the most challenging, yet rewarding.

I usually never hit a 7 iron for a 140-yard shot, but I needed the power to get it up the hump and onto the green. A great tee shot had me hit the lip of the front of the green and roll right on. Then, in true golf style, I followed it with a three put for bogey. The green on the hill also shows up on the red course as hole 2.

Like I said earlier, the water hazards can lighten the golf ball load in your club bag pretty quickly. Blue course hole 6 is another challenging hole where you have to avoid the water hazard on the drive and then hit an approach shot on the green that's surrounded by water.
