SMART Train officials have confirmed they are seeking new federal infrastructure funds to expand their routes. SMART is seeking a portion of the bipartisan $1.2 trillion infrastructure law passed last year to finish their northward expansions up to Cloverdale and a line connecting Marin and Solano counties along Highway 37. It will cost an estimated $300-million to link the service to Cloverdale and between $780-million to $1.3-billion for the Marin-Solano county linkup. A Marin-Solano link would span 41 miles and have seven rail stations. How much SMART will apply for isn’t yet known as they need to meet eligibility requirements first before making that request.
