Laurens, IA (KICD)– A Laurens man is facing a number of charges after police were called to an apartment building early Thursday morning to a report of a person threatening others.

The call came from the Sadie street Apartments around 4:30 where witnesses tell police Cody Hapes was reportedly threatening two others with a knife and taser.

The first officer on scene reported being threatened leading to Hapes being tased, but he reportedly resisted arrest at one point biting the officer. When additional units from Pocahontas and Buena Vista Counties arrived, the struggle was still ongoing which led to Hapes being tased a second time before he was finally taken into custody where he then allegedly kicked one of the officers while being placed in a squad car.

Hapes has been charged four counts of first degree harassment, two counts of assault on a peace officer and public intoxication. Police say additional charges are possible as the investigation continues.
