Ben McDonald has high praise for Tennessee’s baseball team, and believes it’ll take an impressive effort to upset the Vols this weekend and even later this postseason.

The SEC Network analyst was a guest on “McElroy and Cubelic In the morning” on WJOX out of Birmingham, Alabama, and previewed the best Friday matchup in Hoover, Alabama.

“It’s hard not to point to Tennessee and LSU in the nightcap tonight,” he said. “I mean Tennessee, I’m just telling you guys, I don’t think I’ve seen a college team, and been doing this for however many years, that’s as dominant as Tennessee. If they don’t win, not just this tournament, if they don’t win the national title, it’s an upset, it’s a big upset. I’ve never seen 4 arms that are potential first-round arms on a pitching staff, that’s what they have.”

It doesn’t stop there.

“They’ve got a guy in the back of the bullpen that throws 105 that they don’t even use in any leverage situation but always comes in when it’s 8-1,” McDonald said. “Because, truthfully speaking, there’s 3 or 4 guys in that bullpen that are even better than him. And they use those guys in the leverage situations. Offense, almost 140 home runs on the year, are you kidding me?”

About the matchup, LSU will be without Jacob Berry, who McDonald said could be the No. 1 pick in the MLB Draft, because of a broken finger and a bruised hand. The Tigers will also miss Cade Doughty, who is out with a dislocated shoulder.
