RIO GRANDE VALLEY, Texas (ValleyCentral) — An individual has been arrested after making a “credible threat of violence” against Vanguard Academy.
At approximately 3 a.m. Friday, the Alamo Police Department received reports on text messages circling within the community. The message detailed a warning of a shooting that was going to take place Friday.
After speaking with students, authorities identified the suspect as a 14-year-old boy who attended Vanguard Academy in Alamo.
All campuses were placed on soft lockdown Friday morning, limiting student exposure in hallways and limiting all outside visitors, according to Vanguard Academy.
The teenager was arrested Friday morning at a home in Palmview and is being charged with making a terroristic threat.
He is currently being held at a juvenile detention center in Edinburg.
Vanguard Academy emphasized in a release that the “safety and security of [its] students, faculty, and staff is [its] first priority.”
Additionally, Alamo PD Chief stated that any and all threats made towards schools will be taken seriously.
