Tractor-trailer hangs off overpass on I-75, FHP says

LEE COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — Parts of I-75 were shut down in Lee County Friday morning after a tractor-trailer flipped off an overpass in the northbound lanes near Alico Road, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Troopers said the tractor-trailer was headed north in the center lane of I-75 when the 34-year-old driver lost control and veered left into a guardrail and concrete barrier. That’s when the cab portion overturned and became engulfed in flames.

FHP said the trailer portion then extended over the barrier wall and became suspended off the overpass.

The Northbound lanes of I-75 were shut down along with the westbound lanes of Alico Road as emergency crews cleared the scene.

The highway patrol released pictures and a video following the incident, which showed the trailer portion of the truck hanging off the edge of the overpass and resting on the lanes below.

Authorities said the contents of the trailer spilled onto westbound Alico Road.

The driver was not seriously injured.
