DEARBORN (WWJ) -- After recognizing an urgent need for baby formula, the City of Dearborn is working to help mothers out.

Since some Metro Detroit moms have been frantically searching for formula amid the shortage -- caused in part by the closure of a southwest Michigan plant -- the City of Dearborn stepped in to address the urgent community need.

The Dearborn Department of Public Health is holding an emergency distribution event on Friday amid the national baby formula shortage.

Several local non-profits have partnered with the department to bring this event to fruition, including the Amity Foundation, the Dearborn Firefighters Burn Drive, the Dearborn Goodfellows, the Dearborn Exchange Club and the Dearborn Centurions.

The formula will be available from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Friday at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center, located at 15801 Michigan Avenue.
