BOYNE CITY — It was recently announced that Avery Christine Walsh, a senior at Boyne City High School, was this year’s recipient of the Young Women in Public Affairs Award.

The award recognizes young women, ages 16-19, who demonstrate superior leadership skills and a commitment to public service and civic causes, and encourages them to pursue decision-making positions in their communities in order to impact the policies that affect the lives of women locally and worldwide.

Ms. Walsh was class president for four years, a co-president of the National Honor Society, on the Boyne Continuous Improvement Plan, and a member of SAFE, the Pride Team, DECA, and the Freshman Mentorship Program. She was also on the tennis, volleyball and cross country teams.

She will be attending The University of Michigan in the Fall to study political science, with the goal of attending law school and becoming a civil rights or juvenile justice attorney.

Zonta International is a global service organization of executives and professionals working together to advance the status of women worldwide through service and advocacy.
