The second annual New River Clean Up event was a raging success. According to Candice Helms, there was an “amazing turnout.” A total of 16 volunteers showed up to spend their Saturday cleaning the New River.
In addition to the mass amounts of debris gathered, Helms said they brought in 130 tires. At the time of writing, the complete debris tally is not available. It currently stands at 1.43 tons, not including the tires.
Many groups and organizations helped to make this project a success. The list includes New River Conservancy, National Park Service, Cantrell Ultimate Rafting in Hinton, the City of Hinton Public Works Department and the Department of Environmental Protection.
