The owner of the Halal Meat and Grocery in Ithaca was sentenced to five years of probation for food stamp fraud Thursday.

Abdul Jalil, 55, of Ithaca pleaded guilty to food stamp fraud in January, admitting he exchanged food stamp benefits for cash with customers at his store. The fraud resulted in a loss of $120,061 to the U.S. government, according to a news release from the United States Attorney's Office for the Northern District of New York.

Jalil paid restitution to the government.
